Robert G. McKelvey
Bob McKelvey is President of George McKelvey Company Inc., an investment advisory firm in Sea Girt, New Jersey founded by his family in 1960. The firm, which Bob has overseen since 1976, manages money primarily for individuals and families.
Bob graduated from Wesleyan University with High Honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in his junior year. He served as President of the student body and a class officer. After graduation, Bob attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, receiving a Master’s Degree. He has taught at Oxford and Columbia Universities and served in the U.S. Department of State.
Bob currently serves as an officer of the Association of American Rhodes Scholars (since 1998); two educational foundations; The Shelter of Bricktown (animal welfare) since 1977; the Dawkins Family Foundation (since 1995); and the Merton College Charitable Corporation (since 1994) that provides support to one of the oldest colleges of Oxford University.
He has served as Trustee of Wesleyan University for 15 years, including five years as Vice Chairman of the board and Vice Chairman of the Investment Committee. He was a founding trustee of the Sea Girt Citizens Lighthouse Committee in 1983 and served as Treasurer for over 20 years.
Wesleyan University has named him a Distinguished Alumnus (2009) and awarded him its highest honor, the Baldwin Medal (2007), for public service. In 2010 Oxford University named him “A Distinguished Friend of Oxford University.” At that time, only forty-two Oxford graduates had received this recognition out of a total of 145,000 living alumni.
Joseph C. Rizzo
Joe Rizzo is a retired architect with over 40 years of experience in the profession. He was as a Principal at The Hillier Group Architects, and with RMJM, an international design firm that later acquired the company. During his 33 years with these firms he contributed to over 100 commercial and institutional projects, specializing in higher education facilities and master plans and libraries.
Joe graduated from Pratt Institute in 1970 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He served in the US Naval Reserve from 1965 to 1973, including two years of active duty aboard the USS Lowry.
Joe and his wife Carolyn moved to Spring Lake in 1983 and raised three sons here. Their first experiences at the Community House were in spending afternoons in the library with the kids and attending special holiday season events - and they soon became regular attendees of its theatre programs.
Joe served three terms on the Spring Lake Council and has been a member of the Borough’s Planning Board for over 20 years. He was a member of the committee that lead the recent rewriting of the the Town’s Master Plan.
Joe is an active member of the Preservation Alliance of Spring Lake where he has played a major role in its efforts to restore and expand the historic Frederic A. Duggan Memorial First Aid and Emergency Squad Building of Spring Lake. He has also volunteered on several local building committees, contributing to the planning of projects like the reconstruction of the North End and South End Pools & Pavilions; the exterior and interior restorations to Saint Catharines Church; and the recent ADA improvements to the Community House.
Joe joined the Board of Trustees in 2013 and chairs the Building & Grounds Committee where he can apply his experience to the continuing restoration and improvements of this remarkable landmark facility.
